FishbowlDC Election Day Party

mediabistro.com is throwing a party in Washington, D.C. tomorrow night to celebrate election day, the World Series (if it's still being played), Tom Shales' birthday and whatever else you want to toast to.

One of your TVNewsers will be there. You'll have to show up to find out who.

Click here if you can stop by...

Learn TV News Reporting

bandwreporter_10-26.jpgMediabistro is offering an "Intro to TV News Reporting" course in NYC that starts on November 3rd, where you can learn TV news basics and tape two segments for your demo reel. Some former students have gotten on-air gigs at Fox Business Network, Fox Philadelphia, WLNY-TV 55, and others.

We mention this because Mediabistro is running a special one-day promotion today: 30% off multiweek courses.

Use the promo code SAVE30 to get the discount. Who knows, maybe one day people will be leaking things about you to TVNewser. You might even make the video wall.

TVNewser Party: Good Times Had, Fries Eaten

Thanks to everyone who came out to the TVNewser party last night in Manhattan. We had a great time and it seemed like you did too.

To everyone who couldn't make it: Boy, did you miss out.

Here are some sweet party photos from the event at Katra.

Fox News anchor Lauren Sivan and FOX senior producer Clint Henderson.

Party with TVNewser on 09-29-09

tvnewserparty9-29.jpgFor those of you in the New York area, TVNewser is throwing a party next Tuesday, the 29th. The party is for "TV professionals," though many of you fit that latter term quite loosely. Seriously though, this is a great opportunity to meet some new people in your industry and chat with your colleagues. Plus, TVNewser will be there (and we mean that as a selling point).

Here is the important info:

Tuesday, September 29 6:30 to 8:30 pm

Katra
217 Bowery Street
(between Rivington and Prince Streets)
New York, NY
Here's what it looks like from a satellite.

Also, BREAKING: Complimentary Appetizers.

RSVP here or the events team will get mad at us. And no one wants that.

Come Intern at TVNewser!

intern_sleeping.jpg
This could be you!
TVNewser is seeking a fall intern to join the team here at mediabistro.com. All you need to be is smart, awesome, and able to receive college credit. The internship is a great opportunity to:
  • Watch TV all day!
  • Learn the ins and outs of the TV news industry as well as an established web site!
  • Hang out with the cool people!
  • Find out the meanings of wacky terms like "blogosphere," "tweet," and "supervising executive producer"!
  • Read through 500 comments on our ratings posts! (Seriously, you guys are crazy.)
  • Enjoy all the pizza you can eat!*
  • Meet Ludacris!**

*At your own expense.
**It could happen...

Check out the posting on the mediabistro job board, which incidentally (ahem) is one of the best places to post your own job listings or seek out a new job. We look forward to reading your awkward cover letter.

Picnic Time

Picnic_8.13.jpg

We're heading off to the (mandatory) WebMediaBrands company picnic. That's Kevin on the far right during sack race practice yesterday.

Blogging will resume later this afternoon.

Meet the New Guy

Kevin_7.10.pngOn Monday, Kevin Allocca joined as editor of TVNewser. A week later, he's still with us.

Chris: How was your first week?

Kevin: "Good. Very hectic. Trying to learn the ropes as quickly as I can. Definitely a lot of fun though. A car chase on Monday. The Jackson coverage on Tuesday. Never dull, that's for sure."

Chris What makes you qualified to be just the third editor of TVNewser?

Kevin: "First things first, I love TV news. At my last job, that was my beat, following the networks. That's the most important thing working at a Website like this. Beyond all the nuts and bolts skills of editing a Website, I'm the kind of person that finds fun, interesting angles on things and likes sharing them with people who have the same interests."

Chris: Where did you work before mediabistro.com?

Kevin: "Most recently I was the associate editor at the political satire site 23/6. I used to write posts and produce their video that was based on TV news, some of it made its way on to the networks. Before that I was working as a writer and documentary filmmaker traveling around the world."

Chris: Where did these films take you?

Kevin: "I've covered disaster relief in post-Katrina Biloxi, Mississippi and Cedar Rapids, Iowa after the flooding in 2008. And I've also been to the Arctic Circle and Russia for documentaries on Soviet history."

Chris: What are you most looking forward to as editor of TVNewser?

Kevin: "I'm definitely looking forward to getting such a comprehensive look inside the TV news industry that I enjoy so much. Also, I hope there's a chance to use the Magic Wall."

Chris (actually, Blake, our editorial assistant asked this one): When did you know you were a TV News junkie?

Kevin: "Watching political coverage really got me interested. Watching the network coverage during the 2004 presidential election then the mid-terms and into the 2008 election."

Chris: What's your favorite color?

Kevin: "Green"

Last One...

It started with some intern gossip at "Dayside with Linda Vester." We had heard the rumors, and asked a producer if it was true — "Go check TVNewser."

From that point on I was hooked — a daily reader, an occasional anonymous tipster (like here) and when the associate editor position opened up, I jumped at the opportunity.

After more than 18 months, I'm truly honored to have been a part of what Brian Stelter started and Chris Ariens has continued.

Now, I go back to being a regular reader. Brian closed his goodbye with, "I still have a lot to learn." I do too — but thanks to everyone at mediabistro.com, I'm off to a good start.

Now Hiring — A TVNewser Editor

So, Steve is leaving us.

After more than 18 months of Associate Editor goodness, he's heading to Abrams Research to be the TV Editor of their media blog, which means we're looking for a new Editor - not an A.E., but an Editor. You'll be running the TVNewser show (with some input from me, of course.)

Check out the job posting here.

Steve will be around for the next couple of weeks wrapping things up. Join us in wishing him the best in his new endeavor.

mediabistro Bloggers Considered for Reality Show

First we hear Steve might be going to Costa Rica later this month to cover the "I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here" finale for WebNewser and now the Washington Examiner reports FishbowlDC's Christine Delargy and Matt Dornic may be the subject of a reality show on Bravo.

Under the working title "Inside Washington," producers have filmed try-out reels twice with a group of twentysomethings, including Washington Life editor Christina Wilkie; Fishbowl D.C.'s Matt Dornic and Christine Delargy; Project Beltway blogger Rachel Cothran; Politico's Patrick Gavin; Mix 107.3's Tommy McFly; former "Survivor" contestant Becky Lee; and the Washington Times' Liz Glover.

Steve_6.3.bmpBy the way, Steve made it to Round 2 in the "Im a Blogger Get Me Out of Here" deal.

Click here to see the Offal-tastic video he created, and vote him on to Round 3.
