Los Angeles Dodgers File For Bankruptcy

The Los Angeles Dodgers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a Delaware court Monday, the latest setback this year for the baseball organization.

In the filing, the Dodgers cite MLB Commissioner Bud Selig‘s decision not to approve a multibillion-dollar TV deal with Fox last week. By filing for Chapter 11, Frank McCourt is allowed to use $150 million to finance the team, which means he could meet payroll at the end of this week.

“He’s [Bud Selig] turned his back on the Dodgers, treated us differently, and forced us to the point we find ourselves in today,” McCourt said in a statement. “I simply cannot allow the Commissioner to knowingly and intentionally be in a position to expose the Dodgers to financial risk any longer. It is my hope that the Chapter 11 process will create a fair and constructive environment to get done what we couldn’t achieve with the Commissioner directly.”

Thirteen of the creditors listed in bankruptcy filing are owed over $1 million, including Manny Ramirez ($21 million), Andruw Jones ($11 million) and current starter Hiroki Kuroda ($4.5 million).

Astros to Honor Broadcaster Brown for 25 Years

Bill Brown, who is celebrating his 25th season calling Astros games on television, will be honored Saturday before the Astros-Braves game at Minute Maid Park.

Brown and his family will be joined on the field before the game by Astros owner Drayton McLane, while Fox Sports Houston will air a video montage of some of Brown’s memorable calls. The first 10,000 fans will receive a bobblehead figure of Brown and broadcast partner Jim Deshaies.

“The likeness of J.D. is very good,” Brown said Thursday to The Houston Chronicle. “I didn’t expect anything like this at all, and I’m really blown away by their efforts to do this. It’s very nice of them.”

Brown previously called games for the Cincinnati Reds from 1976 through 1982.

Bill Parcells To Tape NFL Draft Special For ESPN

Bill Parcells role as a Miami Dolphins consultant has come to an end and the former head coach and general manager will tape a NFL Draft special for ESPN.

Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said Parcells is “not associated with the team anymore in any official capacity.”

According to ESPN, Parcells, who worked for the network in 2001-02 and 2007, is scheduled to take a 90-minute special about the inner working of the draft in April and that “is all that’s planned at this time.”
