’60 Minutes’ Philip Seymour Hoffman Interview: ‘I Got Panicked for My Life’

Hoffman304Tomorrow night “60 Minutes” will rebroadcast a 2006 interview with Philip Seymour Hoffman in which the actor discusses his problems with addiction. The Steve Kroft interview has been re-edited to include previously un-broadcast material, including more from the actor about the rehabilitation he underwent in his early 20s.

“I went [to rehab], I got sober when I was 22 years old,” said the then-38-year-old Hoffman. “You get panicked…and I got panicked for my life,” says Hoffman.

“I have so much empathy for these young actors that are 19 and all of a sudden they’re beautiful and famous and rich,” Hoffman says. “I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I’d be dead.’ You know what I mean? I’d be 19, beautiful, famous and rich. That would be it.”

Hoffman was found dead Sunday in his New York apartment, where authorities found packets of heroin and a syringe in his arm.

The United States is bidding against Qatar, Australia, Japan, and Korea Republic for the right to host the latter tournament.

FSC plans to have coverage the day before as well as a one-hour Decision Day 2022: A Fox Soccer Report Special on the second. Curt Menefee will anchor the coverage while Eric Wynalda, Cobi Jones, and Alan Rothenberg provide analysis.

In other World Cup 2022 news, the American Bid Committee is putting the full court press on FIFA, recruiting Bill Clinton to pen an editorial in Sports Illustrated detailing why the tournament should come to the US.

The FSC release is after the jump.
