As One ‘View’ Host Returns, Another Prepares To Depart

On Monday Barbara Walters returned to her rightful seat behind the table on “The View,” joining Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shephard.

On “ABC World News” last night, it was revealed that Joy Behar–the longest-running cast member outside of Walters–would be departing.

“And this just in, our friend Joy Behar has announced that she will be leaving ‘The View’ at the end of the season,” Diane Sawyer said. “After 16 and a half years alongside Barbara Walters and the gang she says “it seemed like the right time to move on.”

Behar has been with the show since 1997, and has also doubled as a cable news regular. She had a program on HLN for years, and moved to Current TV after parting ways with HLN. Her future at Current is unclear, with Al Jazeera set to change the channel to Al Jazeera America in the coming months.

Former NBC News Correspondent Maria Menounos to Dance ‘With the Stars’

ABC announced the cast of this season’s “Dancing with the Stars” on “Good Morning America” this morning, and while Nancy Grace will not be coming back for a second go-around, TV news will still be represented. Former NBC News correspondent and current host of the syndicated entertainment show “Extra” Maria Menounos, will be on the cast this season. In addition, there will be a bit of corporate synergy, with ABC’s “The View” co-host Sherri Shephard also joining the cast.

Nancy Grace’s former dance partner, Tristan McManus, will be dancing this year with legendary singer Gladys Knight, who says the Pips are the reason for her joining the cast. “They never let me dance!” You can see the rest of the cast, which includes singers, athletes and actors, here.

Who Threw the Best TV News Holiday Bash?

Your TVNewsers are over at the mediabistro.com holiday lunch right now (posting will resume later). So, this is a good time to size up some of the other holiday parties.

Barbara Walters and “The View” EP Bill Geddie played Santa this week, putting up the dough for the show’s holiday party Tuesday night. The cast, crew, and producers took over P.D. O’Hurley’s on New York’s Upper West Side.

A “View” insider tells TVNewser, “Barbara, looking very festive in a gorgeous red top and skirt boogied on the dance floor with Bill Geddie and Sherri Shepherd.” Last night on Larry King’s final show, Walters said her voice was still hoarse from the party.

NBC News/MSNBC had their holiday party Wednesday night at the home of “Saturday Night Live.” “It was a blast!,” an NBC insider tells us. “A great party… great turn-out.”

DJ Chris Witherspoon kept Studio 8H rockin’ with NBC/MSNBCnewsers dancing until 11, long enough so MSNBC’s primetime staffers could attend. Anchors Lester Holt, Amy Robach, Lawrence O’Donnell, and Ed Shultz, as well as NBC News president and Steve Capus showed off their interactive music skills during a Rock Band face-off.

CBS News shows celebrated this week too. The “48 Hours” crew partied Tuesday night at a loft in New York’s Hell’s Kitchen. “CBS Evening News” anchor Katie Couric was rumored to host a more low-key holiday lunch at midtown restaurant Fresco by Scotto. Not true.

Barbara Walters to Appear on ‘The View’ July 12

Theview070810.jpg ABC News journalist and “The View” co-host Barbara Walters will make an appearance on the daytime talk show July 12, ABC says. It will be her first appearance on the program since undergoing surgery to have a heart valve replaced in early May.

The surgery was successful, and Walters has been out and about, but until now, viewers of the daytime talker have only heard updates from the other women on the program, as well as an occasional phone call from Walters.

However, viewers will have to wait a little longer before Walters is back on set with Joy Behar, Sherri Shephard, Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Whoopi Goldberg. For her July 12 appearance, Walters will only be appearing live via Skype.

Update: Walters will also be returning to her weekly radio show “Here’s Barbara” on Sirius-XM July 12.
