As we first reported back in April, Andrea Canning is joining NBC News as a correspondent for “Dateline.” Canning will also contribute to all NBC News shows and platforms, including “Today” and “NBC Nightly News.”

“We are delighted to welcome Andrea as part of the NBC News family,” said NBC News president Steve Capus in a statement. “Andrea’s impressive body of work has quickly earned her an outstanding reputation and she will thrive at NBC News.”

Canning was most recently a correspondent for ABC News, which she called home since 2004. She has had a busy Summer since leaving ABC. In August, Canning and husband Tony Bancroft welcomed a baby girl into the family.

Soon to be NBC News correspondent Andrea Canning is a mom, again. Christina Margaret Bancroft, aka “Kiki,” came into the world Friday at 1:25pm at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan. Kiki is doing great and we’re told older sisters Anna & Charlie are very excited. Andrea and dad, Tony Bancroft are getting ready for a few more sleepless nights.

Canning left ABC News a few months ago. And she can thank, in part, her former ABC News colleague Martha Raddatz for all this. Raddatz introduced Bancroft, a former fighter pilot, to Canning five years ago. The couple was married in 2008.

> Charlie Gibson is taking his show on the road again this month to see first-hand how the economic crisis is impacting Texas. “World News” will originate from Houston Monday and Tuesday. Gibson will also anchor coverage, from Houston, of Pres. Obama’s news conference Tuesday night.
