WebNewser reports Brian Ross' The Blotter is getting a new managing editor. Mark Schone leaves Salon.com next month for the ME job at the ABCNews.com investigative Website. Situation Room EP Jumps to GMATVNewser hears Eric Sherling, executive producer of CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer" is leaving CNN and will join ABC's Good "Morning America". Sherling joined CNN in 2000, became executive producer of Wolf Blitzer Reports in 2002, then a supervising producer for "The Situation Room" when it launched in August 2005, before becoming EP in 2006. In a note sent by GMA Senior EP Jim Murphy and obtained by TVNewser, Murphy writes that during this "time of transition" for the show, Sherling brings "an excellent track record and reputation." No word on a start date. Sherling will report to Murphy and to EP Tom Cibrowski. New Morning Programming Senior EP at TWCFormer "GMA Weekend" producer, Ted Winner, is moving to The Weather Channel. Winner will be Senior Executive Producer for morning programming and a spokesperson told us, "Ted is an award-winning television producer with 20 years in broadcast journalism and extensive experience covering weather, including producing award-winning content in the aftermath of Hurricanes Katrina and Floyd. We are looking forward to him joining TWC." Before leaving in June, Winner was Senior broadcast producer with the weekend edition of ABC's "Good Morning America." Former Good Morning America features reporter Mike Barz is making his first public statements after being let go in July as a morning anchor for Chicago's Fox O&O, WFLD. In an interview with vocalo.org's Robert Feder, Barz says he has hired an attorney to get his job back. Feder reports an arbitration hearing is forthcoming. MSNBC Hires ESPN Vet for Top Marketing JobSharon Otterman is joining MSNBC as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. Otterman, who joins MSNBC from ESPN, will be responsible for overseeing the network's on- and off-air marketing and branding. Greenburg, an Alabama native and mother of four, joined ABC News three years ago. Before ABC, Crawford Greenburg spent 20 years as a reporter for The Chicago Tribune, much of the time spent covering the Supreme Court. In 1998, she began providing legal analysis for PBS' "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" where she remained until ABC brought her on in 2007. Insiders tell us CBS News Washington managing editor Bob Schieffer has been a mentor to Crawford Greenburg. For CBS News, she'll continue to cover the high court. But she'll first have to sit out a non-compete clause in her ABC contract. Terry Moran will be covering the court, as he has done in the past, in addition to his "Nightline" duties for ABC News. FNC Liberal Pundit Marc Lamont Hill Fired
Hill, a frequent guest on "The O'Reilly Factor" and other Fox News shows, has been the target of increasing criticism on the blogosphere for alleged sympathies to controversial figures including Assata Shakur and Mumia Abu-Jamal. Though Hill bills himself as an expert on hip-hop culture, he also drew fire for serving as a liberal foil for various Fox News personalities on subjects far from his stated area of expertise. Think Progress points out that Hill was on Fox Business Network as recently as yesterday. Tim Peek Upped to EP at NBC NewsHere's a new TV news title for you - Executive Producer of Transformation. That's what longtime NBC News employee Tim Peek is going to be doing for the network. According to a press release, "Peek will oversee the incorporation of emerging technologies into the daily practices of the news division." Most recently, Peek was a Senior Digital Producer at NBC where he worked to advance digital journalism efforts across the news division, heading up technical and editorial training around new techniques. Peek joined NBC News in 1996, as an investigative producer for "Dateline NBC." He began his journalism career as a freelance writer and as news director of the college radio station at Colorado College, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. He also holds a master's degree in journalism from Northwestern University. ABC's Zach Toback Jumps to NBCTVNewser has learned ABC veteran ops manager Zach Toback has joined NBC News as Vice President, News Operations. "Zach will be based at 30 Rock and will be responsible for the convergence between News production processes and new technology ensuring the best in technology and operations support," writes his new boss, head of NBC News operations, Stacy Brady. Most recently, Toback was Executive Director of Production & Operations for "Good Morning America." He'd been with ABC News for 14 years. Toback begins at NBC News Oct. 19. In an email from CBS News and Sports President Sean McManus, obtained by TVNewser, McManus writes, "Thanks to Paul, the news division has grown stronger behind the scenes and in front of the camera. He has been a leader in helping guide CBS News' moves to restructure the way we gather news globally." Friedman joined CBS News in April 2006 as VP. Before that, he spent two years at PBS and before that 24 years at ABC News, including two stints as EP of "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings." Before ABC, Friedman was at NBC News for 14 years, serving as EP of the "Today" show from 1976-79 and as senior producer of "Nightly News" from 1975-76. He began his journalism career as a reporter and writer for WNBC Radio News in 1967.
