Today “On The Trail,” Not In Town Halls

The Today Show is launching “Today on the Trail,” giving viewers a “revealing, behind-the-scenes look at the 2008 Presidential candidates on the campaign trail.”

It starts on May 29 when Meredith Vieira interviews Barack Obama and continues on May 30 when Matt Lauer interviews Mitt Romney.

“In this age of multi-million dollar commercials and staged town halls, the political conversation in this country is far too scripted,” EP Jim Bell says. “We’re going to break through the packaging and give our viewers an honest look at who these candidates really are.”

Do you think the “staged town halls” line is a reference to Good Morning America’s candidate town halls?
