Velshi on the Menu: “Our Audience is Prepared to Digest More News”
With Glynnis still in Canada, we were joined by another Canadian on our four-month podcast anniversary: CNN’s chief business correspondent, Ali Velshi.
Velshi talked about the coverage, and successes and failures, of President Obama’s Europe trip.
We also discussed the various “Money Summits” CNN has been airing — which will continue in May. “They’ve been very, very well-received, and I’m pleased about that,” said Velshi. “What it says is that our audience is prepared to digest more news and news of a greater sophistication when it comes to their money.”
Velshi says interaction is important in business reporting. “It’s not scientific: it’s emails and phone calls and I-Reports,” he said. “But it’s some sense of feedback about what viewers want, and it tends to resonate.”
Also discussed: Velshi’s current advice to those in financial trouble, the Wall St. Journal’s new pay model and Velshi’s upcoming trips to Canada.
