Weather Plus, Minus Four More

meretsky_12-30.jpgTVNewser has learned today is the last day on the job for most of the remaining on-air talent of the former NBC Weather Plus: Jackie Meretsky (pictured), Gary Achibald, Todd Santos and Britta Merwin. Meretsky, who provided forecasts for MSNBC mornings including “Morning Joe” is currently on maternity leave. Archibald, Santos and Merwin worked mainly on MSNBC or CNBC programs as well as for the now shuttered 24-hour digital channel.

That leaves just Weather Plus originals Bill Karins and Jeff Ranieri as on-air meteorologists for the networks of NBC.

NBC announced in October it would shut down Weather Plus, following the acquisition by NBCU of The Weather Channel. “We’re going to look at everybody and make a determination about what we’re going to do,” said NBC News president Steve Capus at the time.

NBC, MSNBC and CNBC have been using Weather Channel meteorologists more and more in recent weeks.
