Yesterday we presented a visual that noted how the U.S. ranked only 8th in Twitter penetration by population, well behind first-placed Saudi Arabia.
However, there are far more internet users (and people) in the States than there are in the KSA, and the USA is comfortably Twitter’s most important region in terms of total number of active tweeters.
@YouTube remains the top, most-followed brand on Twitter, with its more than 35 million followers placing it well ahead of all other brands, including the official @Twitter profile.
Twitter’s widely-anticipated IPO is just around the corner, and, for many analysts, it would seem to make sense to speculate on Twitter’s fortunes based on what has happened to Facebook (and, to a lesser extent, LinkedIn), and their IPO, given that Twitter and Facebook are, you know, kind of the same.

Social media companies continue to dominate all brands on Twitter, with six entries in the top ten, including @Facebook, which is very much on the ascent, and now ranks 6th overall amongst Twitter brands. Look for @Facebook to break into the top five soon, perhaps as early as next month.

Who’s the most influential world leader? It’s a debatable point, but you’d be hard-pressed to find someone more influential than U.S. president Barack Obama. Obama, of course, is on Twitter – and has been for some time – so by definition he must be the most influential head of state on there, too, right?
Wrong. At least according to one new study, which suggests that it’s Pope Francis who is actually Twitter’s most influential world leader. Pretty good going, when you consider that “he” has only been tweeting since last December.

Yep. The official @Twitter account is only the third most-followed brand on its own social platform, and twelfth amongst all profiles, with a whisker over 21 million followers. However, combined with @twitter_es, the official Spanish Twitter profile, and its 12.6 million followers, it would rank first overall.
