Vine Shares On Twitter Plummet After Instagram Video Launch [CHART]

Last week I took a look at Instagram’s new short video feature, and waxed (somewhat) lyrical about why, in my opinion, it was no threat to Twitter’s Vine, which had rapidly expanded to 13 million users and long-eclipsed Instagram amongst shares on the Twitter network.

Turned out I might have been slightly off, at least in the near term. Since Instagram video’s June 20 launch, shares of Vine videos on Twitter have pretty much collapsed.

Instagram VS Vine – Which Short Video App Is Right For You? [INFOGRAPHIC]

Last week we took a look at why Facebook-owned Instagram’s new video feature is no legitimate threat to the future of Twitter’s increasingly popular Vine, although there are some notable differences between the two platforms.

For starters, Instagram’s audience is a lot bigger. Indeed, it’s about ten times the size of Vine, with 130 million users all set and ready to go with the new video feature, compared to Vine’s 13 million. Yep, Vine has Twitter behind it, but Instagram has Facebook, so it’s still got a considerable edge when it comes to usage and growth.

Why Instagram Video Isn’t A Threat To Twitter’s Vine

Yesterday Facebook-owned Instagram launched a new video feature which allows Instagram users, all 100+ million of them, to record Vine-style videos on the fly.

The difference? Instagram’s videos can be as long as 15-seconds, compared to Vine’s six seconds, and Instagram users can also add one of any thirteen filters on the fly to their video content. Pretty darn cool.

So, here’s the billion-dollar question: given Instagram’s size and clout, does this mean the end of Vine?

Vine Surpasses Instagram In Twitter Shares

Five-month-old Vine is already giving Instagram a run for its social media clout.

Just a few days after Vine became available on Android, San Francisco-based Topsy Analytics reported that Vine had garnered 2.86 million shares on Twitter, vs. Instagram’s 2.17 million shares.
