Class of 2018 hopefuls can prove their social savvy to Tufts University thanks to the school’s unconventional application.
The supplemental writing prompt, which encourages applicants to “think outside the box” and “[be] playful if that suits you,” reads,
“The ancient Romans started it when they coined the phrase “Carpe diem.” Jonathan Larson proclaimed “No day but today!” and most recently, Drake explained You Only Live Once (YOLO). Have you ever seized the day? Lived like there was no tomorrow? Or perhaps you plan to shout YOLO while jumping into something in the future. What does #YOLO mean to you?”
Tufts certainly isn’t the first university to incorporate social media into the application process – remember the University of Iowa business school’s headline-making “application tweet” contest? – but it’s energizing to see higher education continue to tap into Millennials’ technological savvy.
