Politico Lawyers Send Cease and Desist to NJ Pub

A would-be publication in Newark, N.J. has slapped the word POLITICO on its name in what looks to be an attempt to capitalize on the Arlington, Va. venture. And Politico lawyers aren’t taking it lightly. FishbowlDC has confirmed that they’ve sent a cease and desist order to all concerned parties involved with NEWARK POLITICO. “Meet Newark Politico, which is not affiliated with Politico: Could a hard-luck city finally be getting some coverage?” a headline in blazing red reads on Capital New York, the website that unearthed news of the site’s existence on Tuesday. To be sure, Robert Allbritton does not own Newark Politico.

Politico Executive Editor Jim VandeHei told Capitol New York that he’d never heard of the site.

What’s next? Politico Down Under?
