Amy Odell Named Editor of Cosmopolitan.com, Leah Chernikoff Editor of Elle.com

Well, that was fast. Hours after we learned that Amina Akhtar, Elle.com’s executive editor, and Abby Gardner, digital director of Cosmopolitan, were let go, Hearst has named their replacements. Amy Odell has been named editor of Cosompolitan.com and Leah Chernikoff editor of Elle.com.

Odell comes to Cosmo from BuzzFeed, where she had been since February 2012. Prior to joining BuzzFeed, she was the founding editor of a writer for New York’s blog The Cut.

Chernikoff most recently served as editorial director of Fashionista.com. Before that she was a features reporter for The New York Daily News, from 2007 to 2010.

[Editor's note: There has been a bit of a dustup over who exactly founded The Cut. Akhtar insists she was, not Odell. Odell says she was, not Akhtar. Yeah! See below for our Twitter conversation. I'm leaving this post as is until I get official word back from New York. Apologies for the confusion.]

 

Update (8:35 am):
Heard back from New York. When The Cut launched, Akhtar was the editor and Odell was the lead writer. That, as they say, is that.
