Brian Stelter, one of The New York Times’ most well-known staffers, is leaving the paper to join CNN. The LA Times is reporting that Stelter, who had been with the Times since 2007, will become the new host of Reliable Sources. Politico added that Stelter will contribute to CNN.com as a media reporter.
Stelter had previously guest hosted Reliable Sources, leading to speculation that he would leave the Times. However, he put that rumor down quickly when he told the Washington Post, “I would not leave the Times for a television job.” Well, people do change their minds.
Stelter is often cited as one of the most talented journalists working the media beat, so this is quite a hire by CNN. And as you probably know, he created Mediabistro’s TVNewser before heading to the Times. So naturally, we’re rooting for him.
