Here’s an early morning surprise for you: James Murdoch has resigned from the boards of News Group Newspapers Limited — the publisher of The Sun and former publisher of News of The World — and Times Newspapers Limited, the publisher of The Times and Sunday Times. According to the London Evening Standard, Murdoch still holds chairman positions at BSkyB and News International.
The sudden departure is little late, isn’t it? It’s as if Murdoch finally understood the gravity of the situation, and realized that putting some distance between himself and the papers would be a good idea. Or maybe this decision came from Rupert Murdoch.
Either way, James’ resignation means there is now no family members on any major British newspaper board, and will raise questions that News Corp. is going to eventually sell the papers it still owns there.
The saga continues.
