Jill Abramson Takes Over as Executive Editor of The New York Times Today

If you haven’t already picked up a copy of today’s New York Times, you might want to, because it’s a historic issue. Today is Jill Abramson‘s first day as Executive Editor, making today’s Times the first to be helmed by a woman in the paper’s 160-year history.
Abramson — one of Forbes’ most powerful women — has the chops to handle the daily grind of the paper and has plenty of digital savvy, which is imperative for anyone in charge of a newspaper. Abramson said that she “is excited and humbled” about her first day.
From all of us at FishbowlNY to Abramson: Welcome, and good luck.
UPDATE:
Here’s a memo from Abramson explaining and clarifying some roles at the Times.
