Sam Jacobs Joins Time.com as Senior Editor

Time has added Sam Jacobs as a senior editor for Time.com. Jacobs comes to Time from Reuters, where he served as national political correspondent since late 2011. Jacobs has also worked for Newsweek and The Daily Beast.

The memo announcing the addition — from Rick Stengel and Edward Felsenthal — is below.

Jacobs joins Time June 17.

All,

We’re delighted to report two exciting developments at Time.com.

First, for a second month in a row, Time.com saw record traffic, with a total of 33.9 million uniques in May. It’s exciting to see how many of the biggest hits drew on what have always been TIME’s most powerful assets, from the haunting “final embrace” photo from Bangladesh (shared by hundreds of thousands of people on Facebook) to Joe Klein on the IRS. Our incredible Timelapse video project with Google was major draw as well, and just behind that the irresistible photos of President Obama at the prom. We’ve also quadrupled our video views during April and May.

Second, Sam Jacobs will be joining us June 17 as a senior editor at Time.com. Sam comes from Reuters where he was national political correspondent, traveling throughout the 2012 primaries and ending the election aboard Paul Ryan’s plane only a few seats away from the ever-filing Zeke Miller. Before Reuters, Sam edited the front of the book at Newsweek and covered politics as a staff reporter for The Daily Beast. He has also written for The Boston Globe’s Ideas section and the New York Observer. A graduate of Harvard and an obsessed Bostonian, Sam will happily bore you about all things New England.
