Among the endless varieties of Emmy Awards (regional, sports, public & community et al) there are the News & Documentary Emmy Awards. The 2007 awards will be held in New York on September 24th and the nominees were just announced. Unsurprisingly, the list is New York-centric (lots of accolades for specialty productions from the Big Three broadcasters and NYC-based cable networks) but a few nominees have uniquely local twists. A Katie Couric 60 Minutes report on health problems from debris at Ground Zero is nominated for Outstanding Continuing Coverage of a News Story in a News Magazine, as was a 20/20 piece on a crippled orphan from Sierra Leone who underwent surgery at NYC's Hospital for Special Surgery. Anthony Bourdain was also nominated for the Travel Channel's Anthony Bourdain in Beirut (Outstanding Informational Programming) and New York's own DMC is nominated for Outstanding Arts & Culture Programming (VH1's DMC: My Adoption Journey).
