Hashtag activism – hashtivism, if you will – is a growing trend on Twitter.
In May, when 200 schoolgirls were abducted in Nigeria, millions of people rallied around the #BringBackOurGirls hashtag. But this was far from an isolated incident on the platform, and with 100 million daily active users and 80 percent of world leaders paying attention on Twitter, intelligent use of hashtags are an effective way for social activists to bring attention to their causes.
