If you’re not paying attention to your mobile Twitter followers, you’re missing out on a huge opportunity.
Twitter was made for mobile. The whole reason that tweets are capped at 140 characters is because they were originally intended as an alternative to text messaging. And remember, this was back in the time when each text was limited to 140 characters.
Twitter is still a powerhouse when it comes to mobile. 84 percent of smartphone users between the ages of 18 to 44 use their phones for social networking, and a full three quarters of Twitter’s total traffic comes from mobile devices.
So it’s important to keep the behaviors, preferences and experiences of your on-the-go Twitter followers in mind when crafting your tweets.
Here are four ways you can optimize your tweets for mobile:
1. Think visual
Images appear in-stream on both computer screens and smartphones. But on smartphones, they take up an even larger percentage of the total screen real estate. So if you want your tweets to be noticed by smartphone users, use images judiciously.

2. Pay attention to your ads
Twitter enabled its Promoted Products suite to be viewable on mobile back in 2012 and hasn’t looked back. The company has since added many mobile-specific features to its ads, including the ability to target by device and new products for app developers looking for downloads. You have plenty of options for targeting ads to include smartphone and other mobile users, so understand what they are and use them to your best advantage.
3. Use mobile-friendly landing pages
When someone clicks a link in one of your tweets, they’re probably taken to your meticulously designed homepage, blog, product page or even a distinct campaign landing page. But are all of these pages optimized for mobile? Since many of your followers will probably be clicking via mobile, it’s a good idea to ensure that all of your links lead to mobile-friendly web pages – especially links that point directly to your website or another web property that you own.
4.Tweet while you’re on the go
Some of the best tweets are the ones that were clearly composed on the fly. They’re spontaneous, interesting, and offer up insight into the actual life of the person behind the account. And the best way to capture these spur-of-the-moment moments is to set yourself up to tweet on the go. Get a good Twitter app, keep your batter charged up, and be prepared to tweet whenever the moment strikes.
