Did you know that more than four in ten (42 percent) of U.S. retailers started their 2012 Christmas advertising in October?

Indeed, more than 30 percent began promoting their Thanksgiving Black Friday deals earlier this year than in 2011, and their plan seems to have worked – more consumers started their holiday shopping prior to November than ever before.

So what’s changed? Shoppers are now doing a huge amount of their holiday buying online, using their smartphones, tablets and social media to find the best deals.
