Today’s Twitter Outage Due To Cascaded Bug

According to Apica, Twitter’s homepage began showing errors at 6:33 a.m. PST.

But why did today’s Twitter outage happen? Well, according to @twittercomms it was a “cascaded bug.”

But what IS a cascaded bug?

We picture it as dominoes – when one falls, it affects a slew of others in its path. Yes, that is the technical definition of “cascade bug.” Anyway, it means it makes a mess and there are likely many items that needed to be fixed.

There are typically redundancies built in to systems to minimize this type of damage, so it will interesting to learn more about what happened, specifically. Seems to have gone on for a bit (sporadically) before they were able to stop it.

We’ll keep you posted!
