Twitter reacts to John Galliano’s firing from Dior

Twitter erupted on Tuesday when the news of John Gailliano’s firing from Dior remarks made it’s way to the social media world.  The tweets were flying fast and furiously in every language imaginable, ranging from the expected humorous cracks to utter disgust with him and his “I love Hitler” anti-Semitic rant made public just days earlier.

Steve Martin weighs in and gets re-tweeted countless times:

Galliano’s fans’ disappointment reads loud and clear:

Nothing is truly relevant on Twitter until Beiber is brought into the discussion:

Another hot topic surrounding Galliano is to what effect Natalie Portman, the newly anointed Best Actress Academy Award winner, had on his departure.

Portman, the celebrity face of Miss Dior Cherie fragrance who also happens to be Jewish, released a statement on Monday evening, saying: “I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”

Natalie’s use of her post-Oscars media stage made the statement even more powerful among fans:

Some questioned Portman’s actions versus words:

All in all, this sensational turn of events for the once dearly-respected designer has proven yet again how quickly a celebrity’s fate can be sealed once the Twitter-verse gets its hands on a story and spreads it like wildfire.  Follow #galliano posts on Twitter for the continued fallout.
