CQ Roll Call has hired a new campus reporter, who will report to Hill Life Editor Jason Dick. It’s Hannah Hess, who has wanted to work for Roll Call since 2008, ever since Niels Lesniewski showed her around the Capitol Chambers on her first day as an intern for RC’s GalleryWatch.
Most recently she has been a legislative researcher for CQ Roll Call, which, according to her beautifully organized website, involved combing through the Congressional Record and watching C-SPAN. An interesting factoid from her site: She has been told that her voice is “smolder-y” on AM news radio.
Congrats to Hess.
See the memo from Editor David Rapp…it’s short and sweet.
Roll Call staff -
I’m pleased to announce that Hannah Hess will join Roll Call as our campus reporter, covering the many offices and agencies that support the Capitol, from police to architect to CRS. She will start with us on Aug. 1, reporting to Hill Life editor Jason Dick.
Hannah came to CQ Roll Call as a freelancer in May 2012, working on a variety of products including Politics in America, StateTrack and Hot Docs. She then joined BillTrack in September 2012. Between these two stints, she reported on the Virginia General Assembly, the campaign for the 2012 Iowa Caucuses and the Illinois General Assembly. She earned two degrees from the University of Illinois — a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies and a master’s degree in Public Affairs Reporting.
Hannah says she’s wanted to work for Roll Call since the summer of 2008, when Niels Lesniewski gave her an insider look at the Capitol chambers on her first day as an intern for Roll Call’s GalleryWatch.
Please join me in welcoming her aboard.
