WATCH: A Most Wonderful Way to Remember Michael Hastings

Yesterday was a tough day for Cenk Uygur. Just moments before going live Tuesday as host of The Young Turks on Current, he had learned of the death of BuzzFeed, Rolling Stone and TYT contributor Michael Hastings.

Uygur was close to tears at one point; the program separately paid tribute to Hastings’ various appearances on the show. There’s also this – a fantastic informal 2012 interview conducted at the TYT offices by Uygur at the outset of Hastings’ time in LA.

Hastings starts off by recalling his unpaid summer internship in New York at Newsweek after graduating from NYU. “There was a heat wave that summer, my apartment didn’t have air conditioning so I was in the office a lot,” he explained. “They thought that was hard work, hired me.”

Hastings goes on to detail some sad specifics about the decline of the once great news magazine, which would go on not long after this conversation to shutter its print edition.  RIP Newsweek and RIP Michael Hastings.
