News International — a company you might have heard of lately — is launching a new “digital journalism company,” according to paidContent. Tom Mockridge, the company’s CEO, apparently told employees that there would be 21 jobs available, but didn’t give many specifics. The only thing known is that the editorial positions would cover sports and entertainment. A source had a guess about the new project:
‘The online department has been criticized for not being able to build apps fast enough. This could be their attempt to beef up NI’s app presence. So they could do a Mail online-style showbiz app, soccer app etc and come up with one-off apps related to major events, Olympics, royal weddings etc.’
News International is advertising for the jobs internally. No word on if the people applying have to be handy with phone taps.
