Wall Street Journal to Add Weekly Residential Real Estate Section

The Wall Street Journal is getting set to add a residential real estate section that will appear each Friday. The addition will be 16 pages long and target “high-end buyers.” The focus will not be exclusively New York, either.

“It will be mostly U.S.-focused, but it will have a more global feeling than a local paper’s perspective,” Robert Thomson, the managing editor of the Journal, said. To fill out the section, the paper plans on hiring 10 additional staffers.

The New York Times, for what it’s worth, wants everyone to know it’s not worried about more competition from the Journal. “We have a highly regarded Sunday real-estate section that has been successful for many, many years, and we don’t expect that to change,” a Times spokesperson told the Journal.

The Journal’s new section will launch in late September or October.
