Little Girl Killed in Tucson Shooting was ‘A Member of the Dodgers Family’

Christina Taylor Green, the 9-year-old murdered during the Tucson shooting on Saturday, is the daughter of John Green, East Coast supervisor of amateur scouts for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Frank McCourt released a statement on Saturday after news of Christina’s death broke:

We lost a member of the Dodgers family today. The entire Dodgers organization is mourning the death of John’s daughter Christina, and will do everything we can to support John, his wife Roxana and their son Dallas in the aftermath of this senseless tragedy. I spoke with John earlier today and expressed condolences on behalf of the entire Dodgers organization.

Baseball is a longstanding tradition for the third grader’s family. Her grandfather is Dallas Green, former manager of the Phillies, the Yankees and the Mets. Christina herself was a second baseman, and the only girl, on her Little League team. According to her father, she wanted to be the first woman to play major league baseball.
