Autography Lets Authors Sign eBooks Digitally

Since eBooks have launched people have been trying to come up with creative ways to get their eBooks signed. Last month eBookNewser reported on a Kindle owner named Andrew Bennett who has getting autographs in a more analog way –directly on the eReader case. “He now has signatures from Gary Vaynerchuk, Jim Kukral, and Steve Garfield.  The signatures are on the back of his K2, which might be a problem. The K2′s back is polished metal, so I don’t think it will take much to wipe it clean.”

Now, a company in Tampa, FL called Autography, has a digital solution. Using the Autography platform, an author can sign a book to a person on his iPad and then send it to them digitally where it will show up on the reader’s eReader by adding a new digital page to the eBook. The above video from Bay News 9 shows how it works.

The idea sounds cool, though with all of the eBook formats and different eReaders out there, I wonder about compatibility issues. Would you end up with some fragmented code from your favorite author? Also, you’d have to have a Wi-Fi connection both to send and receive the autograph, though most eReaders have this nowadays, so that shouldn’t be a problem.
