Apple CEO Tim Cook Apologizes for Apple Maps, Suggests iPhone Owners Use the Competition

Apple Maps has turned out to be an utter fiasco since it launched last week, and the situation is now so bad that the CEO has had to apologize. There is an open letter posted on the Apple website from Tim Cook, and he is quite contrite.

But as interesting as that letter is, I have something better. A contact at Apple has slipped me the original unedited version of the letter. It paints a much different picture. One paragraph in particular was missing a number of sentences, and I have reposted it below: Read more

How to Use Apple Maps (Humor)

If you’ve been following the news with Apple then you probably know that Apple Maps is a horribly broken feature of iOS 6. It’s so bad that, as you can see in the satirical video above, users need directions just in using the app.

The video is from Jest, and I seriously hope that it exaggerates the issues because otherwise the number of bugs would scare this blogger.

Five Crazy iPhone 5 Durability Test Videos

While it’s normal to see at least a few destruction videos for any new gadget, the new iPhone is once again ahead of the competition. It’s managed to pick up quite a few fans who have very enthusiastically killed it in some novel ways. The video above by RatedRR is just one example; there are four more after the break. Read more

Mac vs PC, Revisited

I came across the following video while looking for the next installment to the S*** Apple Fanatics Say video series. This video is a little old, but it still manages to capture the spirit of both the old Mac vs PC commercials as well as the recent satirical videos.

The above video was made for a class project at California State University Northridge. It plays on Apple’s still fondly remembered Mac vs PC commercials using artwork inspired by the show South Park.

Apple Maps for iOS6 Not Working Out Quite as Well as Apple Had Hoped

When Apple released the latest iOS update yesterday they left out the Google Maps support in favor of their own new maps service, Apple Maps. Unfortunately for Apple, they didn’t quite work the bugs out before launch.

Quite a few early adopters are reporting all sorts of bugs, map and location errors, and some awfully funny images. Take the one at right.

As you can see, Apple has succeeded in pancaking the Statue of Liberty.  That 300 plus foot tall monument is now flatter than a dime.

And that is not the only mistake. There’s a whole slew of similar images on Twitter. They’re being shared under the #ios6pocalypse hashtag, and some are just as funny as this one.

It’s well worth your time for the snickers alone. And if you run out of funny images on Twitter, there’s also a new Tumblr blog which launched just to cover these goofs:

The Amazing iOS 6 Maps

The New iPhone 5: A Taller Change Than Expected

The new iPhone surprised no one when it was unveiled with a 4″ screen, but as you can see from this video Apple originally had other plans.

Put A Filter On Me (The INSTAGRAM Song)

Julia Mattison must have had my friend in mind when she wrote this fun little ditty about the photo sharing app, because it describes him to a T.

Dave puts a filter on every photo he takes and yes, he posts them all on Instagram.

I’m not sure he’s gong so far as to photograph dog poop but I do know that he’s shared far more photos of his food than I ever cared to see.

Banned iPhone 5 Promo Shows What Apple Really Thinks of Their Gadget

What is it about Apple’s commercials that makes them such a fun target for spoofs? The following NSFW video was released today, and it uses the iconic Apple employee talking to the camera approach to satirize Apple products and design philosophies.

But the really funny part about this video is that Apple hasn’t actually made any commercials like this for some years now. In fact, I cannot recall when I last saw a real Apple commercial that looked like this spoof, even though I can recall a half dozen spoofs like this one. At this point all these spoof videos are really just spoofing themselves, but luckily that doesn’t make the jokes any less funny.

Amazon to Launch an Even Cheaper Alternative to the Kindle Fire

Amazon thrilled a lot of tablet buyers with the updated $159 Kindle Fire, which was one of the cheapest tablets for the specs and abilities. Today they are ready to show off an even cheaper option. Meet the Amazon Wendell.

The Conan O’Brien Show posted this video in response to Amazon’s press event, and the video is up to their usual level of satire and wit. As you can see, the Amazon Wendell is a graying guy who’ll show up and help out. For $10 he’ll get freaky.

When Rock-Paper-Scissors Decides the Fate of the World (video)

We’ve probably all played the game Rock-Paper-Scissors at one point or another, but have you ever wondered what a game among world leaders would be like? The above video pairs up 8 world leaders, including Hugo Chavez, Hu Jintao, Barack Obama, John Paul II, Kim Jong-Il, Idi Amin, Queen Elizabeth, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, and uses clips from their public appearances to script out a tournament where one contestant will reign supreme.

While this isn’t an app story, I couldn’t help but watch this video and wish someone had made a Rock-Paper-Scissors app using these clips. It would be a fun way to play the game, don’t you think?
