Macmillan Looks For Digital Piracy Director
Macmillan posted a job listing for a Digital Piracy Director today, signifying a concern for digital piracy. It seems that Macmillan is trying to quell DRM fears associated with eBooks.
Author’s Guild president Scott Turow says that piracy is one of the biggest concerns facing the industry today. Brian F. O’Leary at Magellan Media disagrees.
From the job listing, “Working directly with Macmillan’s Senior Vice President of Strategic Technology, this position will help coordinate and manage Macmillan’s anti-piracy initiatives. These initiatives include, but are not limited to, those designed to: protect content in and out of house, pursuit of litigation and legislation and the creation of internal an external programs and awareness.” The candidate will also have to “prioritize and follow-up on tips of pirated works world-wide,” and “investigate pirate websites.”
This applies to various Macmillan properties which include: St. Martin’s Press, Farrar Strauss & Giroux, Henry Holt, Picador, Tor, Macmillan Audio, Bedford Freeman & Worth Publishers, and Scientific American.
