When Posties aren't planning panda recipes, they're playing Musical Jobs.

First, Gabe Escobar quits, and then apparently he's un-quitted. ("I actually voted in favor of my job before I voted against it...")

Here's what we're hearing (and please shoot us some more info either by email or in the tips box).

Escobar got pissed on Wednesday for being passed over for a job at the Post's Sunday magazine (keep in mind that he's also been passed over for Assistant Managing Editor, Metro and Assistant Managing Editor, Continuous News [and he was miffed that the Post didn't tell him he didn't get the job personally...he learned that Rajiv Chandrasekaran got the position when they went public with the news...apparently a frustratingly common Post procedure]). Now the Post has apparently create a new position at the magazine to appease Escobar.

Other stuff that we're hearing:

• Rumor has it that Escobar was/is interviewing for an editor position at the New York Times.

• Escobar applied for, and didn't get, a position in the Style section (man, this guy just can't catch a break!)

• Of the many reasons to hang on to Escobar, here's one that probably was seriously weighed by the Post brass: race. Escobar is one of the Post's only Hispanic editors (the only other one we can think of is Emilio Garcia-Ruiz, Assistant Managing Editor/Sports) Losing him (especially after earlier controversial moves with regards to Gene Robinson and Robert McCartney [McCartney's was admittedly less controversial than Robinson's]) would leave egg all over the Post's face.
