Cool: Grey Vancouver’s Lo-Tech Record Player

It dates back to last year, but Grey Vancouver’s promotional mail effort for hometown sound studio Griffiths, Gibson and Ramsay Productions is still garnering props from the design community, vinyl enthusiasts and the like.

Folks at agencies/prodcos across the U.S. and Canada who received the mailers could turn the envelope into a record player by simply folding and using a pencil to spin the vinyl, which played an original GGRP track called “A Town That Found its Sound.” According to reports, Grey adopted an obscure technology called “cardtalk” to come up with this effort, which has been so popular that recipients are still asking for extra copies for their kids and/or office.
