Less Than Half of Twitter Users Post Anything

A study performed by Edison Research/Arbitron Internet and Multimedia Series (market research and exit polling firm) found that 53% of Twitter users don’t actually post anything. The study is based on three years of data (Twitter’s been around since 2006) surveyed about 1,800 users and found that:

-awareness of the service has grown from 5% to 87% since 2008, for people older than 12 years. Facebook is at 88%.

-compared to Facebook, Twitter usage is much lower, just 7% versus 41% for Facebook.

-”Nearly two-thirds of active Twitter users access social networking sites using a mobile phone.”

-”51% of active Twitter users follow companies, brands or products on social networks.”
