Artist Formerly Known as DavidonDemand Heads to VB&P

And so, the agency travels of David Perez, the guy once known as #DavidonDemand, continue as the man has landed yet another creative recruiting gig, this time at San Francisco’s Venables Bell & Partners. A month ago, folks familiar with Leo Burnett Chicago, where he first made his splash as a Twitter slave during Cannes 2010, were telling us that Perez was working on a freelance project for its L.A. office. Now, he’s back in full-time mode at VB&P, serving as creative recruiter and heading back up to the Bay Area, a familiar territory seeing as he most recently held a similar position at AKQA SF for a solid six months.

During his time at AKQA, Perez also oversaw the creative internship program “FORGE,” as well as a small team of recruiters and coordinators in both San Francisco and Portland.  VB&P ECD Will McGinness sings the new hire’s praises in a statement, “We’re thrilled to have David at VB&P in this new role. His sustained track record of recruiting great talent and personality will add a lot to VB&P’s culture.”

@DavidonDemand Leaving AKQA

Sources familiar with the matter confirm that David Perez, who’s spent the last six months as creative recruiter at AKQA’s San Francisco office, is leaving the agency. Perez, who joined AKQA this past April after a five-year stint in the same position at Leo Burnett/Lapiz, is perhaps better known as @DavidOnDemand, the now-defunct handle he once assumed that garnered his 15 minutes of fame prior to Cannes 2010. AKQA would not comment on Perez’s departure, but from what we’ve been told by sources, the former Twitter serf/Chicago native has given notice and is heading into freelance territory. No timetable, though, has been set for his official departure from AKQA.

‘DavidOnDemand’ Lands New Gig at AKQA SF? (Updated)

His LinkedIn hasn’t been updated to reflect any changes as of today, but a Twitter post from David Perez, aka @DavidOnDemand, perhaps says it all. Perez, of course, made a splash in the media world two years ago ahead of the Cannes Lions by being a slave to whims of the Twitterverse, which in turn earned him a trip to the festival. We’re checking with the AKQA camp for verification on Perez’s arrival in San Francisco. The Chicago native has spent the last four years as a creative recruiter at Leo Burnett and Lapiz. We’ll keep you posted.

Update: Perez himself has confirmed that he will indeed be recruiting creatives at AKQA SF come May, adding via DM, “Will ALWAYS love Leo. Greatest place on earth.”

Update 2: AKQA also confirms Perez’s upcoming arrival in the Bay Area, adding that his official title will be senior creative recruiting manager. And yes, he will be based in the San Francisco office and report to Jennifer Remling, global director of recruiting.
