W+K Cracks Fast Company’s ’50 Most Innovative’ List

Two Wieden posts in one day, you say? What the hell, we say back, especially after we peeped Fast Company‘s new Top 50 Most Innovative Companies list and wouldn’t you know it, the Portland-based agency landed smack dab in the middle at #25–only two positions below its longtime client, Nike.

The Fast Company site of course credits Old Spice for W+K’s charting and offers a comic slideshow that provides background on how the campaign came together, including the arrival of pitchman, Isaiah Mustafa. The most interesting takeaway from this list perhaps is that Wieden + Kennedy seems to be the only agency on it–unless our eyes are deceiving us. Of course, the heavy hitters including Apple, Twitter and Facebook top FC’s chart at #1, 2 and 3, respectively.

Update: Yes, there was also a separate top 10 list for Advertising/Marketing, with W+K taking the #1 slot. Check it out here.

EW Readers Pick ‘Flo’ as Greatest Advertising Icon

We’re sure this will absolutely not stir up any debate whatsoever, but in any case, the readers of Entertainment Weekly, ever the cognoscenti of the ad industry, have overwhelmingly chosen Flo as “advertising’s greatest icon” as part of the publication’s Big Schill bracket game.

The Progressive Insurance Girl, played by actress Stephanie Courtney, beat out the likes of Old Spice Guy, the Pillsbury Doughboy and the Budweiser Clydesdales on her way to picking up 73 percent of the vote over the course of the Big Shill battle. It did of course help that the annoyingly perky redhead has a decent social presence, what with 2.5 million fans on Facebook who probably treated this like American Idol. Isaiah Mustafa, by comparison, only has 26,000 according to the folks who sent us this news. You can check out a portion of the bracket below and a full version here. It’s almost as exciting as the March Madness one, right?
