W+K New York, Delta Airlines Give Back for Christmas

In the spirit of the season, Wieden+Kennedy’s latest for Delta Airlines launched today.

Here’s the story behind the spot: the client followed up on its Fall “No Bag Left Behind” by creating a limited run of the starring bear bag for Children’s Miracle Network. A team of pilots and flight attendants then filled dozens of the bags with presents and delivered them to kids at Scottish Rite Hospital for children in Atlanta.

The result was this spot:

Don’t try to tell us that you weren’t moved.

W+K NY Flies to the Grammys with Delta, Ryan Lewis

W+K New York teamed up with M ss ng P eces and producer Ryan Lewis (of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis fame) for this spot promoting Delta Air Lines’ and LinkedIn’s Innovation Class offering.

The “Innovation Class” program from Delta “offers LinkedIn members the opportunity to meet and fly with select industry leaders on designated flights,” with Ryan Lewis its latest mentor. In the spot, Lewis talks about his experiences in the music industry, how he got started making music (playing guitar) and his upcoming involvement in the program en route to the Grammy Awards.

If, after watching Lewis make obnoxious airplane noises, you’re somehow still interested in paying to sit next to him for an entire flight, you can apply for the Grammy edition of the Innovation Class series hereRead more

W+K NY Utilizes Voice of Donald Sutherland in ‘No Bag Left Behind’ for Delta

W+K New York enlisted the voice acting services of Donald Sutherland in their latest effort for Delta Airline’s “Keep Climbing” campaign.

Cleverly titled “No Bag Left Behind,” the spot derives from the insight that Delta flies more people than any other airline. Positioning this insight in an emotional context, the 60-second broadcast spot breaks from the more rational, documentary-style tone “Keep Climbing” has taken in the past, also employing the use of color for the first time in the campaign.

Directed by Noam Murro, the ad follows the bear-shaped bag of a small girl as it is cared for by Delta employees ensuring its safe delivery. Sutherland’s voice provides the perfect calm cadence to narrate the spot, concluding with the line, “…but when you’ve got an entire company who knows that the fewest cancellations and the most on-time flights are nothing if we can’t get your things there too, it’s no wonder more people choose Delta than any other airline,” delivered as the very relieved girl picks up her bag. The spot, which launched yesterday, will run until the end of November. Read more

Delta’s ’80′s In-Flight Safety Video’ Crams as Much Decade’s Worth of Nostalgia Into 5 Minutes

We’re not sure who’s behind it, but “Delta’s 80′s In-Flight Safety Video” manages to turn the normally insufferable flight safety video into something totally rad (Update:  It is W+K NY, credits after jump).

The 5:22 video should send a welcome wave of nostalgia over children of the 80s (I don’t really qualify, although I did have a Teddy Ruxpin). It manages to cram as many 80s references as possible into the video, while simultaneously tackling the basics of flight safety. From mullets to Alf to vintage electronics, the cultural touchstones are piled on so fast you might not catch them all. It’s definitely the most entertaining flight safety video we’ve ever seen, and a clever way to get people to watch something they’d normally ignore. Bonus points for enlisting Jerry Casale from Devo.

Kevin Costner Lends Voice to MLB Opening Day Spot

In just 13 days, Major League Baseball and the boys of summer will kick off their 2011 season. With the NFL heading for a lockout, it just might be baseball’s big year to reclaim the title as “America’s Game,” and really, when was the last time you saw this much patriotism crammed into a 30-second television spot? What about Obama and Bush throwing out pitches back-to-back? Everyone’s happy.

The guys at W+K got Mr. Field of Dreams himself, actor Kevin Costner, to give the ad a little celebrity push. Aside from making a movie about the sport every two years, Costner co-owns a northern Illinois independent league team and regularly visits University of Texas games and practices. Generic-sounding voice notwithstanding, he is the Hollywood personification of baseball, and the right man to give the league his endorsement.

Not into the MLB? Look at it this way: once March Madness subsides, the Bulls win the NBA championship and the NFL lockout is official, baseball is all we have. And, until we fix the BCS and take away Cam Newton‘s Heisman Trophy, NCAA football will always disappoint. If you’re looking for a bandwagon to jump on this year, word has it that the Milwaukee Brewers finally got themselves some pitching. Credits after the jump.
