Energy BBDO Imagines a ‘Smaller World’ for Rosetta Stone

Energy BBDO created a new anthem ad for Rosetta Stone entitled “Create a Smaller World.”

As the title suggests, the 60-second spot imagines how much smaller the world would seem if everyone learned, “just one more language.” According to the spot, “unlikely conversations would be likely,” “strangers would be friends,” and “collaboration would be king.” While the execution stumbles at times, it’s a good idea well tied to the brand’s message. It’s not too hard to imagine someone who has been toying with the idea of picking up a language being inspired to do so by the ad. Whether that will lead them to shell out the considerable cost for Rosetta Stone, however, is another matter, with the company banking on hooking people with a free three day trial offer. Translation Dives Into Summer for Champs

Translation, New York has a new campaign for Champs (for whom they are agency of record), entitled “Game Never Sleeps.”

The campaign celebrates the summer with a series of spots highlighting nocturnal sporting highjinks and a pool party rooftop dive. In the ridiculous 30 second-spot “One Giant Leap” a party-goer takes a rooftop leap into a pool. Only he realizes mid-jump that he left his prized kicks on. Somehow, he has the presence of mind to to quickly slip them off, unharmed, while also managing to make it into the pool. Other spots in the campaign are a bit more plausible, featuring nighttime games of basketball and football. Stay with us after the jump for “Let There Be Light” and “Nightglow,” along with credits. Sears, Mcgarrybowen Parody Rom-Coms in New Holiday Spot

Yes, romantic comedies are formulaic. Yes, everyone is aware of this. Yes, it is because everyone is a aware of this that romantic comedies are frequently the subject of parody and criticism from almost everyone. But, just because making fun of rom-coms isn’t exactly an original thought doesn’t mean Mcgarrybowen Chicago is going to shy away from resurrecting the everyone’s favorite “run-through-the-airport-for-your-true-love” trope in “Connecting Flights,” the agency’s new holiday spot for Sears.

Now, just because making fun of romantic comedies has become as formulaic as the genre itself doesn’t mean your mom isn’t going to laugh her ass off when she sees our handsome beau eat shit on a refrigerator. In fact, I would hypothesize that it’s the most ardent fans of rom-coms that are also the most ardent fans of rom-com parodies. And, admit it, you chuckled a little bit too, because people getting hurt is always comedy gold. Always.

I know many of you were hoping that Mcgarrybowen would reinvent the wheel when  it won Sears last spring, and judging by some of the comments here, you’ve been less than satisfied with the results. But, hey, this is a silly holiday ad targeting moms and the dads who love them. Can’t we all get together over a nice Christmas goose, peppermint-flavored hot chocolate, and each other’s company to watch pretty people slam into refrigerators face-first? Credits after the jump.
