New President/CEO at TBWA Worldwide

This evening brings news that Troy Ruhanen will succeed Tom Carroll to become the new President/CEO of TBWA Worldwide. (Jean-Marie Dru will retain his position as Chairman of the Agency Network.)

Ruhanen, a member of the AAF Hall of Fame who first earned your Spy’s attention back in 2009 when BBDO created the Deputy Chairman North America position to give him a promotion, spent the last ten months as EVP of the larger Omnicom Group.

In the past, he held several executive positions at BBDO, running the AT&T business prior to being promoted to Deputy Chairman and then CEO of the Americas to oversee its operations in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. Before joining Team Omnicom, he also spent three years as Managing Director of Leo Burnett’s office in his native Sydney.

In what’s sure to be a controversial quote, Ruhanen writes that his appointment is “a great honor” due primarily to TBWA’s “unique strategic method in Disruption®”, which “attracts talent, unlike others, and produces work that creates a competitive advantage.”

Janneau Returns to TBWA Fold

After a ten-year absence from the TBWA\ network, Laurent Janneau has returned to assume the title of worldwide managing director for the agency’s global Infiniti account. During his decade away from TBWA, Janneau first worked as an international account director at W+K Amsterdam on Nike, which called for him to lead creative development and global implementation of soccer–er, sorry, football–campaigns tied around the World Cup, Euro Cup, etc.

Janneau  split from W+K in 2005 and returned to Paris to join up with O&M as group account director for Nestle Waters and GlaxoSmithKline. Two years later, he moved up the ladder at Ogilvy to take on the role of global business director for the agency’s Louis Vuitton account and most recently served as executive director at the Paris office. In his second tour of duty at TBWA (his first lasted from 1995-2001 at BDDP\TBWA Paris), Janneau will report directly to the Worldwide CEO/president Tom Carroll.

TBWA Latest to ‘Give a Sh*t’ About Japan

Lee Clow and the gang at TBWA have gotten involved with raising money for Japan by launching their own effort called “Give a Shit, Get a T-Shirt.” While Grey chose the auction route and BBH decided to sweat it out in order to help the disaster-hit nation, the TBWA camp is offering a T-shirt featuring artwork by LA-based graphic designer/visual artist Geoff McFetridge in exchange for a $20 donation.

The “Give a Shit” site tells you how to take part and includes some brief, peculiar clips starring Clow himself (sporting the tee above), TBWA\MAL CCO Duncan Milner and TBWA CEO Tom Carroll.
