After receiving a few tips about this but no official word back, it appears to finally be so as Walt Connelly has now joined up with TBWA\Chiat\Day New York as global CD. Most recently, the creative vet served as global executive creative director at Havas Worldwide last summer on the agency’s Merck Consumer Care business, a position he just assumed last summer. During his career, Connelly has served as ECD at the likes of McCann, JWT (on on Microsoft, Kimberly-Clark, HSBC, etc.) and Ogilvy (on IBM). When we’re done tapping feet, twiddling thumbs and the like awaiting Chiat’s word on specifics, we’ll keep you posted.

It’s been a couple of years since we heard the name Walt Connelly, but the creative exec has now returned to his old stomping grounds at Havas New York, where he worked early on in his career when it was still known as Euro RSCG. Last we remember, Connelly and Ogilvy New York parted ways in summer 2011 after he spent just five months at the agency as executive creative director on the IBM account. Since that time, the creative exec has served as CMO at startup denim jeans brand I Am Not a Virgin and founded his own collective called Creative Apostles.
Now back at Havas, Connelly will assume the role of global ECD on the agency’s Merck Consumer Care business that includes the Claritin and Afrin accounts. Along with his Havas and Ogilvy stints, Connelly spent six years as ECD at JWT on Microsoft, Kimberly-Clark, HSBC, Ford and Bloomberg, and also served in a similar role for several years at McCann Worldgroup San Francisco
We’ve received a couple of tips in the last hour regarding the status of Walt Connelly, who joined Ogilvy & Mather New York just five months ago as executive creative director on the IBM account. Spies are now telling us that he’s already out at the agency. When we called Ogilvy’s New York HQ and asked for the ECD, we were told the name “Walt Connelly” wasn’t showing up in the computer. Hmm. Well, we’re checking with the proper folks for clarification on this matter and will update once we have a yea or nay.
Connelly joined Ogilvy from JWT, where he spent six years as ECD on Microsoft, Kimberly-Clark, HSBC, Ford and Bloomberg.
After five years at JWT, Walt Connelly is now headed back to Ogilvy to serve as executive creative director on IBM in the agency’s New York office. During his tenure at JWT, Connelly held the ECD title as well and worked on accounts including Microsoft, Kimberly-Clark, Ford and Bloomberg.
Along with his two stints at O&M (his first time included work on AmEx and Jaguar) and time at JWT, Connelly was an ECD at McCann Worldgroup in San Francisco, where he spent nearly five years, and was a creative at Euro prior to that. In his return to Ogilvy, Connelly will work alongside IBM global CD Susan Westre and North American CCO Steve Simpson, the latter of whom calls the new hire “an ideal fit for Ogilvy and for IBM” in a statement.
JWT New York concocted this latest spot for Huggies, which shows that babies can be equal parts destructive and adorable (ok, probably more destructive). Directed by MJZ’s Fredrik Bond, the advert shows how a simple changing of diapers can result in total chaos. We can vibe with the freeze-frame aspect and music that’s fit for an episode of Boardwalk Empire in this clip, which has a clear message: Huggies turns toddlers into Chucky. Credits after the jump…
