Though he didn’t do himself any favors by starring in that bizarre Nike ad prior to his return to golf at the Masters, Tiger Woods shows off his somewhat lighter side in this new EA Sports spot promoting the launch of his Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 game.
Creative credit goes to San Francisco agency Heat (W+K Portland handled media), which says the concept is “All the excitement of team sports meets golf… now with team play.” Here, golf takes on a soccer-like atmosphere with Tiger and Team USA, coached by Mike Ditka no less, taking on Ian Poulter and Team Europe. Woods of course sinks the winning putt.
Peter Moore, president of EA Sports, one of the few remaining sponsors to stand by Woods, tells the Wall Street Journal, “It’s been a tough six months in the business of golf and with what went on with Tiger…it is time to lighten up.”
