58% of Parents of Young Kids Will Download Gifts This Year: PBS

The most popular gifts given by the parents of 2-to-10 year-olds will downloadable , according to a new report from PBS Kids. The report found that 58 percent of these parents said that they will “most likely” or “definitely” be purchasing apps, games, eBooks and digital music for their kids this year. Ninety-five percent of the parents who do plan on purchasing downloadable content plan to spend more or the same as they spent last year on downloads.

While digital gifts will be popular, the actual devices will be less popular to give as gifts this year, according to PBS. The report found that 68 percent of kids already have access to a computer, smartphone or tablet. Seventy-five percent of these parents are downloading these gifts and loading up the content for their kids and 57 percent are giving them gift cards so that the kids can download the content themselves.

According to the report, 56 percent of the parents surveyed reported that they co-play with mobile apps with their children “often” or “sometimes”.
