Amazon Selling Large Screen Kindle Fires in Europe & Japan

Amazon is now selling the  8.9″ edition of its Kindle Fire HD tablet in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Japan.  In addition, the company has lowered the price of this device in the United States to $269 for the Wi-Fi version and $399 for the 4G version.

Dave Limp, VP, Amazon Kindle, stated: “As we expand Kindle Fire HD 8.9” to Europe and Japan, we’ve been able to increase our production volumes and decrease our costs.  Across our business at Amazon, whenever we are able to create cost efficiencies like this, we want to pass the savings along to our customers.”

Amazon opened its Kindle Stores across Europe in 2011 and opened up in Japan last fall. The smaller version of the Kindle Fire has been available in these markets since last fall.
