Evernote Hacked, All Users Must Reset Password for Access

Evernote blocked a recent hacking attempt this weekend, but hackers still gained access to user emails and passwords. The company is confident that hackers did not access payment information or stored data:

Evernote’s Operations & Security team has discovered and blocked suspicious activity on the Evernote network that appears to have been a coordinated attempt to access secure areas of the Evernote Service.

As a precaution to protect your data, we have decided to implement a password reset. Please read below for details and instructions.

In our security investigation, we have found no evidence that any of the content you store in Evernote was accessed, changed or lost. We also have no evidence that any payment information for Evernote Premium or Evernote Business customers was accessed.

As a result of the security breach, all users are required to reset their password for access by logging in at Evernote.com. All Evernote apps must be updated with the new account information to work. While it is unlikely that hackers can crack Evernote’s encrypted passwords, users can take extra measures by using different passwords for different web sites and web services. Read more

Evernote for Android Updated

The ever popular note taking service Evernote pushed out an update this week which adds a number of features to their Android app.

In addition to the usual bug fixes and tweaks, the app now offers a new widget which you install on the home screen of your Android tablet or smartphone. As you can see from the screen shot at right, the widget offers a shortcut to the app which makes it easier for you to quickly start a new note.

This update also adds a simplified and improved note editor toolbar, making it easier to type in more complex notes, as well as a redesigned menu bar which will now show different icons based on your current activity, location in the app, and other context details.

You can find the app in Google Play.
