New “Literary Studio” Is Trying To Raise $30k On Kickstarter For Serial eBooks

Plympton, a new company that describes itself as a “new literary studio creating compelling, serialized stories for the future of reading,” is trying to raise $30,000 using Kickstarter to fund its mission.

The San Francisco-based startup’s idea is to foster an environment in which authors can write installments of serialized digital stories that can be delivered directly to a reader’s device. Think of it like a new episode every other week or once a month, that features the same characters as their story evolves. It’s like works by Madame Bovary and Charles Dickens or in today’s terms like new episodes of Mad Men or Breaking Bad for eBooks, or for traditionalists its like . Installments can range between 7,000 and 25,000 words, so its short easy digestible reading in between each delivery timeframe. Each of their current works is comprised of between four and six installments, making the whole work about the length of a full book.

Here’s more about the project: “Serialized fiction also makes good financial sense in a literary world transformed by digital readers. Serials give readers a steady stream of great fiction at a price point that’s competitive with other digital content. And it gives writers the chance to get paid well for writing well, while building a dedicated fan base for their work.”
