The Chicago-based publishing services company RR Donnelly expanded its digital wing today with the purchase of LibreDigital a specialist in digital content conversion and distribution.
The 12-year-old LibreDigital is probably best well known for its digital distribution, including its once-coveted status as an aggregator for iBook. But it also supplies content to Barnes &Noble as well as to more than 40 different retailers. LibreDigital’s platform also enables publishers to market digital content direct to the consumer. Customers include leading publishers as well as manufacturers and marketers of standalone, tablet and mobile e-reading devices. In fact, earlier this year LibreDigital launch a new portal to assist small and self-published in uploading content so it could be sold in iBooks. It also powers a number of periodical platforms including the one built into the NookColor.
“With this acquisition we uniquely position RR Donnelley to support publishers and other customers with capabilities that include physical and digital production and distribution,” stated John Paloian, RR Donnelley’s Chief Operating Officer. “For example, we can produce books in quantities from one to millions, prepare the same content for distribution to e-readers and provide valuable business intelligence to our customers throughout the entire process.”
