Sales of To Kill a Mockingbird Double after Celebrity birth

The Daily Mail is reporting that sales of To Kill a Mockingbird increased 123% on Amazon UK after the birth of Harper Beckham youngest daughter of  the soccer player David Beckham and Victoria Beckham.

The novel, written by Harper Lee, was first published in 1960. Its ranking in the bestsellers charts jumped after the couple mentioned that the author was the inspiration for their daughter’s name, and that she was Victoria’s favorite author.

This came as a surprise to many because it had been widely and maliciously reported that Victoria Beckham didn’t read.

David posted a video on his Facebook page where he said: “A lot of thought goes into our children’s names and Harper was a name that we’ve loved for a long time for a couple of reasons. One reason is Harper’s an old English name which we loved and one of the other reasons was Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill A Mockingbird and the author was Harper Lee. It’s a very strong, passionate book. That’s where Harper came from.”

This title is also at #248 on Amazon.com, which is an impressive accomplishment considering the size of the US book market. It’s not available as an ebook.
