Snapchat Photo Messanging App Adds Video Feature

You can now record and send short 10 second video clips using Snapchat, a photo messanging app. The video functions like Snapchat photos where recipients will be able to view the video only once before the video disappears forever. The disappearing file feature helps to encourage users who are typically camera shy.

The new video features also comes with new “friending” process wherein users must be friends before receiving and sending messages to one another. Critics of Snapchat beleives the nature of the program makes it susceptible to sexting though the founder cites that  “It doesn’t seem that fun when you can have real sex.”

Snapchat’s popularity has been on the rise since last month, increasing from 20 million images shared per day to 50 million. The increase in users makes it especially viable for monetization, which the company is considering. Users should be expecting either in-app advertising or premium features in the near future.
