Microsoft Releases Office iPhone App

Microsoft has released a Microsoft Office iOS app for Office 365 subscribers. The app lets users access, view and edit Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint documents on their phone.

The app ensures that the documents don’t have any formatting issues and that things like charts, animations, and graphics are easy to view. Any edits that the user  makes or notes that the user adds won’t move around the formatting.

The app is optimized for the Microsoft blog:

Office Mobile has been optimized for the small screen of your phone so you can get the important things done quickly. For instance, the Slide Navigator allows you to page through PowerPoint presentations fast while Speaker Notes help you practice presentations on the go. When reviewing Word documents on your phone, the Resume Reading feature takes you to the exact point in the document where you left off on your computer so you never miss a beat.

Microsoft Said To Release iPad Competitor At CES

Next year could be a big year for tablets. The iPad 2 is rumored to go into production in the first quarter and RIM’s Playbook tablet is slated for release in early 2011. And now, Microsoft’s new tablet computer is expected to debut at CES next month.

The New York Times
reports: “According to people familiar with Microsoft’s plans, Steve Ballmer, Microsoft’s chief executive, is expected to announce a number of these devices when he takes the stage at C.E.S., showcasing devices built by Samsung and Dell, among a number of other manufacturing partners.”

According to the Times piece, The Samsung device will run the Windows 7 operating system and it will be about the same size as an iPad only thicker. It is also supposed to have a keyboard that slides out.

Microsoft To Release Windows 7 Phone

Microsoft is ready to announce its new Windows 7 phone next week. Along with AT&T, the technology company has sent out invitations to a launch event for Windows 7, which will take place on Monday October 11th in New York.

Microsoft has not yet said when the new phones will go on sale, but we might expect the October announcement will mean that the phones will go on sale for the holiday season. Digital Trends predicts November: “Industry speculation at this point still has Windows Phone 7 devices going on sale in Europe in late October, and landing in the United States in November.”

We can expect that when the phone does launch, the big eBook players will launch eReader platforms for the phone. When RIM announced its PlayBook last week, Kobo, Amazon and Wattpad all said that they will have eReading apps for the new tablet.
